Top Google Maps Contributor with 18 Billion Views to Visit Mammoth Lakes October 21 on Nationwide Visual Mapping Tour

Mammoth Lakes, CA — October 21, 2026 — On Wednesday, October 21, Mammoth Lakes will host one of the most-viewed Local Guides on Google Maps as part of an ongoing, coast-to-coast initiative to document local businesses and enhance digital navigation. Herve Andrieu, the creator behind googlemaps.guru, will explore commercial districts throughout Mammoth Lakes to capture and upload high-quality storefront imagery directly to Google Maps.

Operating part-time out of a converted van, the creator travels across the United States visiting a new town, city, or village nearly every day. To efficiently cover commercial corridors, the contributor navigates streets on an electric unicycle, stopping in front of every local business to take two clean photos showcasing the storefront.

The initiative serves a dual purpose: improving the navigation experience for Google Maps users and driving foot traffic to brick-and-mortar storefronts by making them easily recognizable online.

“My goal is simple: help everyday travelers find where they’re going while giving local businesses the visual presence they deserve,” said Herve Andrieu, Google Maps local guide and founder of googlemaps.guru. “When people search for a local shop or restaurant online, having a clear, accurate photo of the front door makes all the difference in turning a map search into a physical visit.”

To date, the initiative’s statistics include:

  • Over 300,000 photos published to Google Maps.
  • 18 billion+ total image views across the country.
  • ~4 million daily views, delivering continuous digital exposure to mapped businesses.
  • Nationwide coverage, spanning from Hawaii to New Hampshire, Washington to California, and extensive documentation across Florida.
  • Recognized by global and local media, with features spanning international outlets like France’s Le Monde to regional papers like South Dakota’s Mitchell Republic.

During the October 21 visit to Mammoth Lakes, photos will be taken from public spaces at no cost to local merchants. Business owners in the area are encouraged to keep an eye on their Google Maps listings over the coming days to see updated storefront visuals.
